The word detective conjures images of childhood memo-ries
of detective stories by Sherlock Holmes or the idea of 'Jasoos'
often in black overalls, hat and a magnifying glass bri-nging
alive memories from Hindi Movies. In real life we did not
find our Ace Detective SN Rai who heads Globe Detectives Services
to this stereotype image, rather he appeared to be approachable,
friendly and contemporary. SN Rai today commands an all India
network of detectives from Mumbai. Talking to him at his Powai
residence was a revelation of sorts about their methods of
working and how people approach detectives in distress for
assistance, their success story and the dangers involved.
They are pioneers in the field of detective & security
services. They have been around from the days when organised
professio-nal security and detective services did'nt exist.
Over the last 37 years, they have created a niche in the market
by offering a truly comprehensive range of Detective and Security
services. Their preparedness to accept any enterprising job
of security management & detective work has made them
India's No.1 agency.
Rai's father was a retired Colonel from the Army who started
this Agency in 1962 and used to operate from Delhi. SN Rai
after his death thought of reviving the business as his father
had built a good name by then and people started asking SN
Rai to take the flag ahead. Meantime Rai, after finishing
his MBA picked a job in a German Company in Mumbai. Somehow,
he never felt comfortable in his job and always had in his
mind to start it all over again. In 1981 he plunged into it
and with single minded dedication, enterprise and dogged pursuit

Rai maintains they were lucky in those days as they got some
real good cases, which they successfully cracked in record

for banks etc. Their utility and employment is essential these
days, with rampant white collar crimes, the need for private

in a meeting of senior executive the well known industrialist
Kumar- manglam of BK Birla announced in the meeting that Private
Detectives keep an eye on your activity. Indicating that gathering
intelligence on key functionaries by Business Hou-ses is gaining
ground and being accepted as an HRD investment and a management
tool to keep senior executives in check.
Speaking on the perils and hazards involved in this profe-ssion
he cites one interesting case of Mumbai where one of their
lady detectives was shadowing a lady in a first class compartment
in local train of Mumbai that she sensed this lady detective
and reported it to local police on detraining, they managed
to nab the detective, help came from another male agent accompanying
her for security who assured the Police about their identity
and made them speak to the Agency's head SN Rai. In another
incident a wealthy Lady and daughter of a shipping tycoon
in desperate need to get address of her ex-boyfriend approached
them and offered a stupendous sum running in six figures,
they did manage to locate the her college friend successfully
in the vast sea of human beings in Mumbai. They have also
helped the image of Mukesh Khanna of 'Shaktiman' fame where
lot of people died copying his acts of fantasy in the serial.
Quite of a few turned out natural acci-dents and in one particular
case a landlord villager was mentally imbalanced who blamed
his inspiration to the serial. Rai has seen the industry grow
from scratch and is a second generation 'jasoos', now his
son, Rahul too has joined the GLOBE GROUP, as they like to
be called now and have included security services and electronic
security too in the present internet age. With an array of
clientele on their list it is Indian Business world's Who
is Who. With their track of success in the cases handled,
they are preferred over many other agencies and hence India's
Number One.
We asked to sum up his success and to be leading in this business
in India. He said we follow simple wisdoms like understand
the problem of the client be a good listener as people come
in problem and most importantly, keep the clients problem
as secret. Many a times when case are solved people often

combines a police officer, a sleuth, a psychologist and above
all a good businessman who feels the pulse of his client and
sets to satisfy him and assures his job will be done.
