Media staffer and hundreds, victim of SRA allotment scam at Mithi’s source in Powai By: Staff Reporter Powai - 07 February 10 : One such grand scheme post 26 July 2006 devastating rains when thousands got washed away in the Mithi River. Its ghost is still haunting, with agents colliding with SRA staffers in having falsely allotted SRA houses to fictitious persons on fake documents. Though, such scams are not something new but when Vijay Wankhede got a whiff that allotments have been given to fictitious persons from a social worker, Baba Khan at Jai Bhim Nagar in Filter Pada (at Mithi) area under Powai. Vijay Wankhede, who works for the local newspaper 'Planet Powai' told, “I had filed all my documents in order during the survey in 2006 at Jai Bhim Nage in Filterpada. But till 2009 I did not get any allotment letter, most of the people had been allotted flats in the SRA scheme at Milind Nagar near L&T. I then filed a RTI with the help of my social worker friend Baba Khan and came to know that we have been conned by SRA officials working with scamsters and our houses have been given to someone else.” On further probing it became evident that the person's name in the records is with original allotee and the photograph and name had been changed with forged documents. This newspaper is in possession of documents to substantiate the case. The social worker also revealed that this is part of a very big scam in which almost 40% allotments are bogus. In most of the cases bogus people have been inducted in the survey list with the active collaboration of SRA officials and scam agents like Akhilesh Lodi, Rajendra Prasad Kanojiya and Fateh Khan. When media-persons asked the MLA Arif Nseem Khan about this scam, he assured to investigate the same and ensure to initiate corrective action and reverse allotments. When PP informed this to Sr PI Ashok Jhadav of Powai police, he informed us that he has received a complaint in this matter and they have already started investigating the case. Rajesh Wajhe of MMRDA refused to comment on this issue when contacted by this reporter. A committee of five persons has been formed to investigate the case to be headed by Jhadav. The affected not-allotted persons approached the Collector's office where Ajit Sakhare assured that he will abide by the recommendation of the constituted committee in this case. |
