Vibrant Sports Day at HFS By Revant Sindhu Powai - 07 February 10 : The School Band played in perfect sync and kept up the needed rhythm. It was quite like the one on the Republic Day at the India Gate. The special judges for this event were Mr. Yuvraj Patil and Mr. Hridekant Jha, both who have won accolades in sports. Juhi Talwar told us, “It was a feeling of great honour to march in front of the parents and the esteemed judges”. Mrs. Kalyaani Patnaik declared the meet open, simultaneously with the Torch Ceremony and the Oath-taking, lead by the School sports captain, Sanjoy Sen Sharma. The expert commentators, Siddharth Mahajan and Anisha kept the interest of the crowd alive with their lovely array of words. A wonderful Drill-display was put up by the students of the junior classes-5 &6. They stood in a formation that looked just like the Indian Flag, in accordance with the patriotic feelings roused in all on Republic Day. The 7th Class girls performed aerobic to the groovy tune of Hannah Montanna's 'Hoe down, Throw down'. The boys formed a human pyramid with utmost perfection. The races began soon after. Applauding parents, cheering students and frenzied runners, the atmosphere was all charged up. Many different races had been plannedapart from the usual 100,200,400 m races, there was a skipping race for girls, a three-legged race which involved two partners with their feet bound together and a slow cycling race. Apart from these, Shot put, Long jump, High jump and Discus thrown were organized.
This was followed by the Parent's race which saw many eager parents line up to run a 3-legged race, egged on by their children. This was won by Mr. & Mrs. Negi. An ex-students race was the last event. The much awaited 'Prize Distribution' began shortly. .The results of the Gymnastics, Cross-Country and Aquatics competitions held earlier were announced. The winners of the Tug-of-War, March-Past and Athletics were declared. This saw the captains of the Houses beaming with pride as they posed for snaps with the trophy in hand. All the participants were highly-spirited, energetic and kept motivated by fellow students and teachers. Though all put in their best, some outdid the rest. These shining stars-the individual champions for the different levels included: Junior Girls - Pranika, Junior Boys - Om Kinni, Inter Girls - Priyanka Athlaye, Inter Boys - Paritosh Gupta, Senior Girls - Meher Abrao, Senior Boys - A three way tie! - Ashish Dhanani, Parth Palan & Sangkrutiya T.P. The whole day was thoroughly enjoyed. A lot of effort had gone into the day and it showed. A DVD of the movie 'God lives in the Himalayas' was being sold, the proceeds from which went to a very noble cause. As Class 8 student Devansh Rattani sums up, “The Sports Meet was well organized and convivial. A feeling of esprit de corps could be seen in all students. Everyone enjoyed it thoroughly.” |
