Nair Mahotsavam-2012 Nair Community in Powai takes stock of its contribution By Gopalakrishnan Nair
KK Nambiar, Chairman, Mumbai Province of the World Malayalee Council inaugurated the cultural events as the Guest of Honour. He offered the services of the Council for heart surgery for the economically weaker sections of the society. Vijay Kumar Pillai, General Secretary briefed the activities of the Society, Ladies’ Wing, Youth Forum and the Nair Business Forum and emphasized that efforts are being made to bring the GenNext in the mainstream of socio-cultural activities upholding the traditions of the community. The ‘Navaratna Excellence Awards’ were presented to nine members of the community their exemplary service to the society. Santhosh Pillai, Hon. Treasurer introduced the Awardees and the awards were presented to SR Pillai (Socio-cultural Service), SG Nair (Entrepreneurship), VN Gopalakrishnan (Journalism), Prem Kumar (Performing Arts), Susheela Venugopal (Education), DR Nair (Professional), Shanthan Panicker (Sports), KR Pillai (Active elderly member) and Smt. Bhavani Amma (Active elderly lady member). A variety entertainment programme consisted of traditional performing arts by members and their families were a major attraction. Adrama titled ‘Avarohanam’ was enacted focusing on the generation gap and the changing lifestyles due to the influence of Western culture into the traditional society GK Vasu Pillai, Founder President and MKS. Nair, President, KGK. Kurup, President, Kendriya Nair Samskarika Sangh also graced the occasion. |
The Nair Welfare Society (NWS), Powai organized the Nair Mahotsavam-2012 at the Open Grounds in front of the Hiranandani Foundation School, Powai on January 8, 2012. Surendra Hiranandani, Managing Director, Hiranandani Group inaugurated the mega event. While addressing the gathering as Chief Guest appreciated the services being rendered by the Nair community in varied fields for the betterment of the society. He also referred to the selfless services rendered by Late Mannath Padmanabhan for the uplift of the community and exhorted the members to emulate his ideals.
